englewood-real-estate_490Englewood is a city that is set within the beautiful South Platte River valley, which provides some of the best recreational activities in the Denver region. The city of Denver is just to the north of Englewood, within easy reach for anyone who wants to take advantage of the additional entertainment opportunities that are to be found there, although Englewood also has an abundance of amenities.

People first began to come to the Englewood area after gold was discovered in 1858 on Little Dry Creek by one of the earliest settlers, William Green Russell. Russell had been prospecting in the region for some time before he and his companions set up camp on the site that would one day become the city of Englewood. Once they arrived at this site, their luck began to improve and they had soon discovered more gold in that one location than during all their previous searches. This began the Pikes Peak gold rush, which played a major role in the history of the Denver area. A settlement gradually grew up in the area of Englewood and was incorporated as a city in 1903.

A number of different neighborhoods now make up the city of Englewood. The northwest of the city is the oldest part of Englewood. It contains the downtown area, some beautiful residential neighborhoods with many homes dating from the 1910s, and the recently redeveloped City Center. The southwest portion of the city contains many of the more recently built residential properties, as well as much of the city's industry. The southeast of the city is the newest and is primarily residential. The northeast of the city contains a large hospital complex. Hampden Hills is the wealthiest section of the town. It contains some of the newest and most luxurious apartment complexes. A number of areas have also been annexed to Englewood.

Englewood today has all of the amenities that would be expected of a city of this size. The Englewood Recreation Center provides residents of the city with a number of sporting facilities including a gym, swimming pool, indoor track and courts for racquetball and volleyball.

A system of parks provides an abundance of green space and recreational opportunities within the city. Belleview Park is the largest in the city. It features a children's playground, bike tracks and basketball and tennis courts. Other attractions within the park are the children's farm and the miniature train. The Community Garden provides space for many of the local people to grow their own fruit and vegetables, but plots are highly sought after.

Englewood has its own water park, the Pirates Cove, which is located within Belleview Park. This is one of the most popular attractions during the summer months, particularly for the city's younger residents. The park has a variety of different pools, slides and water features including a 35 foot slide tower.

The Broken Tee golf course is very popular with residents of Englewood. It is an award winning 18 hole course that also has a Golf Academy.

Englewood is located within Arapahoe County. Four different school districts serve the city of Englewood: Englewood, Littleton and Sheridan public schools and Cherry Creek Schools.
