The City of Golden is a historic community that lies within Jefferson County in Colorado. It is located along Clear Creek in the foothills of the Front Range of the Rockies. The city sits in a sheltered valley between Lookout Mountain and the North and South Table Mountains. The famous showman Buffalo Bill Cody is buried on Lookout Mountain.
The settlement that is now the City of Golden was first founded during the gold rush that brought many people into the Denver area during the 19th century. The original camp that was set up on the site was named Golden City because of the precious metal that the miners hoped to find there.
